Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in Jacksonville: What to Know First

We provide independent DuraFlex chimney sweep and inspection work throughout Jacksonville, and most single-flue sweeps are completed in 90 minutes to two hours. A standard sweep on a DuraFlex-lined chimney typically runs $189 – $289 before any repairs, depending on flue height, creosote stage, and whether you need a Level 1 or Level 2 inspection alongside it. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized shop, which means our recommendations come from what we actually see in your flue, not from a warranty checklist.

This page is for Jacksonville homeowners who already have a DuraFlex liner system or are considering one and want to know what ongoing care actually looks like. If you’re seeing soot streaks around your firebox, smelling smoke in the house, or it’s simply been more than a year since the last sweep, call (904) 453-7823 and we’ll get you scheduled.

How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • Creosote buildup in the 316L alloy liner. DuraFlex’s 316L stainless liners hold up well against moisture, but they’re not immune to creosote glazing. We see stage-two and stage-three creosote in DuraFlex liners on wood-burning fireplaces across Jacksonville, especially in homes off Heckscher Drive and in Mandarin where fireplaces get heavy use from November through February. The fix is mechanical sweeping with poly brushes sized to the liner diameter, followed by a camera check to confirm we didn’t leave tar streaks behind.
  • Leaking at the tee connection. The DuraFlex tee body and tee cap are common leak points, particularly on exterior chimneys exposed to Jacksonville’s summer humidity and afternoon thunderstorms. Water runs down the liner, pools at the tee, and eventually seeps into the flue or the surrounding masonry. During a sweep, we check the tee gasket and cap fit, and we’ll tell you plain if the seal has degraded to the point where replacing the cap is cheaper than chasing leaks.
  • Pinhole corrosion from chloride salts. This is a Jacksonville-specific reality. In coastal neighborhoods like Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Mayport, salt-laden air accelerates corrosion on stainless liners, especially at weld seams and where the liner passes through the chimney crown. DuraFlex’s smooth-wall liners show pinholes before the corrugated sections do, and we catch them early with a camera inspection during a routine sweep. If the liner is still structurally sound, a sweep plus a crown seal is often the honest fix.
  • Warped or detached connector flanges. The DuraFlex connector that mates the liner to the appliance collar can warp from repeated heating and cooling cycles. When it does, exhaust gases leak into the chase, not up the flue. We see this on gas fireplace liners that were installed without enough support at the connection point. Our fix is a re-seat of the connector with the right clamp, then a draft test to confirm gases are moving the way they should.
  • Buildup from burning pine and fatwood. Jacksonville firewood is often pine or a pine-oak mix, and pine produces heavy, sticky creosote faster than hardwoods. DuraFlex liners in homes that burn a lot of pine need sweeps more often than the standard once-a-year schedule. We flag this during inspections and give you a straight answer on whether your current burn habits are creating a fire risk. Some homes near San Jose and Baymeadows need a sweep every eight or nine months, not twelve.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process

  1. 1
You call (904) 453-7823. A live person answers, takes your details, and books a time that works. You’ll know the technician’s name and see their photo before we arrive, and they’ll show a photo ID badge at the door.
  2. 2
We set up and protect the work area. Drop cloths go down before any tools come out. We use a HEPA vacuum on every sweep, so soot doesn’t drift into your living room.
  3. 3
We inspect the DuraFlex liner visually first. This includes the crown, the tee connection, and the appliance collar. We’re looking for the failure modes listed above, not just creosote.
  4. 4
We sweep the flue with brushes matched to your liner’s diameter. DuraFlex smooth-wall liners take poly or wire brushes depending on creosote stage. We don’t use steel wire on 316L liners unless the buildup demands it, because it can score the surface.
  5. 5
We run a camera inspection. Every sweep includes a camera pass so you can see the flue after we’re done. If we find cracks, pinholes, or a failed tee seal, you get photo documentation, not just our word for it.
  6. 6
We test the draft and clean up. We run a quick draft test to confirm airflow is moving correctly, then we clean the firebox, pack up, and walk you through what we found. You get a written report and a written guarantee on any repair we recommend, with a free second visit if that repair fails within the coverage period.

What DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Costs in Jacksonville

A standard DuraFlex chimney sweep in Jacksonville runs between $189 and $289 for a single flue on a one-story home. Two-story homes or flues over 25 feet add $40 – $75. A Level 1 inspection alongside the sweep is included in our price; a Level 2 inspection with full camera documentation adds $100 – $150 and is the right call if you’ve had water intrusion, a chimney fire scare, or a new appliance installed.

If the sweep turns up a failed tee cap, damaged connector flange, or pinholes in your DuraFlex liner, repair pricing is quoted separately and always in writing before any work starts. Replacing a tee cap typically runs $60 – $120. Patching a connector joint runs $120 – $200. If the liner itself has failed, a full DuraFlex reline is a bigger conversation, and we’ll tell you honestly when a reline is necessary versus when a sweep and a seal will safely carry you another season. Why Jacksonville Homeowners Call Alcott Chimney Jacksonville for DuraFlex Work

We’ve been serving Jacksonville since 2002, and we carry and install DuraFlex liner systems alongside HeatShield and Gelco products, which means when we recommend one brand over another, there’s no blind loyalty behind it. Our technicians are background-checked and identity-verified before they ever step onto your property. This is the Threshold Standard, and it’s not an upgrade you pay extra for. It’s how every visit works: written price before any work begins, a written guarantee on every repair, and a free return visit if a repair fails within 365 days.

Ruben Castellano runs the crew, and he’s the kind of owner who still gets on a roof to see a flue problem himself. He learned the trade through hands-on coursework at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and spent years working chimneys on the West Coast before bringing that background to Jacksonville, where our crew has cleaned and inspected fireplaces from Riverside homes to properties near Friendship Fountain. Tell me what you’re seeing and I’ll tell you what it actually means. That’s not a tagline for us. It’s how every inspection report gets written.
